Junaid Khan’s Maharaj is finally available for Streaming

After a protracted legal struggle, Aamir Khan’s son, Junaid Khan, can finally make his much-anticipated debut with the film “Maharaj.” The Gujarat High Court has lifted the stay on the film’s release, allowing it to be available for streaming.

Junaid Khan’s debut in “Maharaj” faced significant delays due to legal challenges. Initially scheduled for release on June 14, the film encountered objections from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, resulting in a stay on its release. However, the Gujarat High Court has now lifted this stay, enabling the film to reach its audience.

Streaming Availability

On June 21, it was announced that “Maharaj” is now available for streaming on Netflix. The Gujarat High Court’s decision to lift the stay order has allowed viewers to access the film online. This development comes as a relief to fans eagerly waiting for Junaid Khan’s debut performance.

Court’s Review and Decision

According to a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI), the Gujarat High Court removed the stay order on “Maharaj.” The film, featuring Junaid Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat, is now streaming on Netflix. To address concerns about potential religious sentiments, YRF provided the court with links and passwords to review the movie. Justice Sangeeta K Vishen, who had initially barred the release on June 13, decided to permit streaming after watching the film.

Court’s Statement on the Film

The court concluded that “Maharaj” is based on historical events leading to the Maharaj Libel Case and does not aim to hurt the sentiments of the Pushtimargi community. The Central Board for Film Certification, an expert body, had already certified the film after considering relevant guidelines. Consequently, the interim relief granted on June 13 was vacated.

Legal Representation and Court Proceedings

Earlier in the proceedings, lawyer Shalin Mehta, representing YRF, stated that the studio was willing to provide the film’s link to the court if necessary. This gesture was intended to facilitate a fair review and address any concerns about the film’s content.
