The Audition That Changed Everything

Hashmi also opened up about his journey in Bollywood, particularly his memorable audition for Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jab Tak Hai Jaan.” Before landing this significant role, Hashmi faced numerous challenges, working various jobs to make ends meet. A pivotal moment in his career was his participation in the short film “Mehrooni,” which, despite not earning him any money, paved the way for his audition for the Yash Chopra film.

Recalling the audition process, Hashmi described it as a whirlwind of emotions and rounds. During his initial auditions, he performed scenes from “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.” After several rounds, he was initially informed that another actor had been cast for the role. Despite his disappointment, Hashmi remained undeterred. A week later, he received a call from Yash Raj Films, the production house led by Aditya Chopra. He was asked to audition one final time, and within 30 minutes of this audition, he was informed that he had secured the role.

A Life-Changing Role: Filmistaan

He also spoke about his life-changing movie, “Filmistaan,” which he bagged around the same time as “Jab Tak Hai Jaan.” Playing a lead role in Nitin Kakkar’s movie, Hashmi had high hopes for it. The film turned out to be one of the best performances of his career, winning the Best Feature Film in Hindi award at the 60th National Film Awards in 2012. It was also screened at multiple domestic and international film festivals before its nationwide release in 2014.
