Mr Bachchan Review: Lackluster Remake For Ravi Teja

Mr. Bachchan, directed by Harish Shankar and starring Ravi Teja, had high expectations given the team’s track record. However, the film struggles to meet these expectations, proving to be a letdown in several aspects. Here’s a detailed look:

The Story:

In Mr. Bachchan, Ravi Teja plays an income tax officer dedicated to his job. He first exposes a corrupt kingpin during a wedding raid but faces backlash from the authorities and is subsequently suspended. Returning to his hometown, he plans to marry Jackie (Bhagyashree). Just before the wedding, Bachchan reclaims his job and finds himself dealing with Muthyam Jaggayya (Jagapathi Babu), a ruthless figure who has previously killed officers who raided his property. The film follows Bachchan’s attempts to handle the challenges posed by Jaggayya and the ensuing complications.

Mr. Bachchan Review: Film Falls Short of Expectations

Mr. Bachchan is a remake of the Bollywood film Raid. The adaptation makes several changes for the Telugu audience but fails to offer anything particularly novel. The film’s first half is bogged down by unnecessary comedy, with Harish Shankar trying to replicate the humor seen in Mirapakai, another film by the director. However, the comedy in Mr. Bachchan often feels forced and detracts from the story.

The transition from the first to the second half of the film is weak, and the climax is predictable. Despite the efforts of producer TG Vishwaprasad and the good quality of songs and background score, the film lacks a strong narrative. The fight sequences are underwhelming, with only the initial fight scene standing out.

Performances:

Ravi Teja’s performance does not seem to break new ground, leaving viewers with the impression that he might be reaching the limits of his range. Bhagyashree’s role is limited to glamour and romantic scenes, with little substance added to the plot. Jagapathi Babu’s portrayal is lackluster, though he tries to inject some energy by performing old songs. Sachin Khedekar’s role feels underutilized, and Gautami’s streak of unsuccessful films continues with Mr. Bachchan. Satya and Alluri Pawan Kumar provide some comic relief, but it’s not enough to elevate the film. Manichandana, who plays Jagapathi Babu’s wife, has a minimal presence with only a few scenes.

Plus Points:

  • The glamour of the heroine
  • The music and songs
  • High production values

Minus Points:

  • Weak direction
  • Forced comedic elements
  • A lackluster second half

Mr. Bachchan fails to impress as a remake of Raid, with a screenplay that feels boring and drawn-out. While it might attract some viewers initially, it does not provide enough entertainment to hold audience interest for long.
