Jr NTR, Ram Charan, MM Keeravani invited to join Oscars’ Academy.

India won big at the most recent Academy Awards, also commonly referred to as the Oscars, bringing home the award for Best Original Song (for Naatu Naatu), being the first ever Indian feature film to win. The film RRR, directed by the renowned S.S. Rajamouli starring now global stars Jr.N.T.R and Ram Charan was a gigantic hit across India earning about Rs. 1250 crore worldwide during its run, becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films ever. Its consecutive release on Netflix quickly turned it into a world-class film, winning it a golden globe and an Oscar. The Oscars, hosted by the The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAAS), is a prestigious body of representatives from each of the craft branches.

This year, the Academy has invited 398 new artists to join as members of the organization , one of the highest honors for any creator of film and such art. The academy currently has over 10,000 members. If all those invited this year accept , the number will go up to 10,817, of which 9375 will be eligible to vote.

Among the new invitees are our very own Jr. N.T.R , Ram Charan and Oscar-winners, composer MM Keeravani and lyricist Chandra Bose along with RRR crew members; Sabu Cyril, the film’s art director and cinematographer K.K. Senthil Kumar. Other popular celebrities like Taylor Swift and the Daniels of ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ were also a part of this year’s invite list. Apart from the high degree of privilege, members of the academy have the opportunity to cast their vote at the following Oscars, inevitably playing a role in shaping art and its acclaim. This truly is a great moment for Indian cinema, though extending an invite to RRR’s captain Rajamouli would only have been right.
