Real-life Rachel from FRIENDS – Jennifer Aniston and ‘kids’. What’s her say on it?

Friends TV show – extremely popular in India – is probably the most binged piece of entertainment in the history of theatre. Despite over 10 seasons, nobody can ever get tired of it. It’s always ‘more the merrier’ for its fans. Rachel Green, according to the scriptwriters themselves, is a spoiled yet courageous young woman who has done nothing to own what she has – basically lived her life with a silver spoon. This hilarious personality of hers has given a stomach-aching laugh to the audience more often than not. But, outside the reel, there’s Jennifer Aniston who’s not Rachel, whose life isn’t as rosy and tongue-in-cheek as the show. In reality, she has problems she’s grown through, one of which has been a gossip for too long, to the point she has now started to despise it, first as a woman then as an actress – kids.

Jennifer Aniston has been married twice in her lifespan of 54 years, both of which ran down the path of divorce. First, with Brad Pitt, then with Justin Theroux. With neither did she have kids and here’s what she thinks about it.

There have been several interviews where she has confidently admitted she isn’t in a hurry to find the one. She hates being set up for dates or marriages. Although it was rumoured in the industry that her first marriage broke because she lacked interest in starting a family, in an interview in 2005, she clearly mentioned she wants kids. However, moving down the course of life, she couldn’t bring herself around to do it due to reasons of her own, which she courageously owns up to and states, “You may not have a child come out of your vagina, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t mothering — dogs, friends, friends’ children.”

We all know pregnancy becomes increasingly complex and unlikely to move towards the age of 35 and above. Aniston is no exception, but her mindset truly is. She said in December 2022, “All the years and years and years of speculation… It was really hard. I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it,” she explained. “I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.’ You just don’t think it. So here I am today. The ship has sailed. I have zero regrets. I actually feel a little relief now because there is no more, ‘Can I? Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.’ I don’t have to think about that anymore.”

To be a woman in a society where even other women collectively support the patriarchal obligation on females to bear a child is difficult. For our own bodies, it should be solely our choice.
